MARY BREVDA

PHOTOGRAPHY

ARTIST BIO & STATEMENT

I have been exploring photography for the past 30 years, beginning with a film camera and developing and printing my own black and white photos to my present interest in digital, using a 6D cannon camera. Traveling and nature has often been an inspiration for my photography. I find that I look at the landscape in new ways when I have a camera in my hand. I look for the relationships of color and shape and texture. I like finding ways to capture the light and to find unusual angles leaving room for personal interpretation for the viewer. I am usually looking to create surreal images from nature through dynamic perspectives and dramatic lighting often creating a more abstract photo.

The body of work that is shown here is all taken in Utah in various canyons and national parks. In two different trips I had the opportunity to hike in Bryce, Zion, Arches, Escalante, and Canyon Lands. The natural beauty of this area  was breathtaking and the lighting at sunset and sundown made it almost seem magical. Walking through the slot canyons felt like entering another world!
